This past Wednesday evening I was walking through the hallway at Southside to my destination where I would begin to lead our Wednesday Evening Service. As I was on my way to preach, my cell phone rang and I answered. At the other end of the line was a precious man who was weeping as he told me that his father had just passed away moments earlier.
As I listened to Jim describe his dad's last moments, my heart began to be filled with emotion because of his father, Everette Sizemore's influence over my life. Mr. Everette served as a deacon and as the church treasurer at my former church, Brush Creek. During my days serving that wonderful congregation, Mr. Everette became a mentor and dear friend of mine. He was always faithful with a burning passion for the work of God and His church. He taught me so much about how to serve people as I watched him serve people with his talents, hobbies and abilities. He was a wonderful family man and loved his children and grandchildren with absolute love. With all of these wonderful qualities, the one thing I remember most about this dear man was his committment and devotion toward his wife before her death just two years ago. For several years, he cared for his sick wife, Mrs.Nancy who was also a precious saint of God. As a newly married man when I met this man of God, I learned so much about how to be a godly husband, father, Christian, and church member from a man that modeled this lifestyle so well.
Thank you Jesus for blessing my life with such a man as Everette Sizemore.
